Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

The PTLLS award is the initial step on the ladder to becoming an official practitioner and having a licence to teach in the lifelong learning sector. The course covers the fundamentals of teaching in adult education such as the theory and practice of teaching, how to plan teaching sessions, motivational techniques to use with your learners and how to use different assessment techniques.

The PTLLS award is mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision. By 2012 all those in receipt of government funding who teach will have to be PTLLS qualified. This includes all assessors, trainers and tutors in the life long learning sector i.e. Colleges, Adult education provision, Workers Education Association (WEA) and private providers (wherever government funds all or part of the course).

You don’t need any prior teaching qualifications or previous experience to enroll. Although before enrolling we do recommend researching which subject you would like to teach, so that you may work towards the award in that area.

Once you have obtained the qualification, you can begin a career as an educator in the lifelong learning sector and are qualified to fulfill various job roles such as:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • Training Manager
  • Training Instructor

After completing the PTLLS qualification, you may decide to move onto other awards that will help further your knowledge and enable you to become a qualified teacher or associate teacher. For more information about both these courses and the PTLLS award then please do not hesitate contact us.
